Setting New Standards: ARTC's Award-winning Design Innovations in Australia’s Rail Network

Good Design Award Winner image description

We are overjoyed to announce that ARTC’s Movement Planner Supporting Application (SAPP) & Train Information Board (TIBs) have won a prestigious Good Design Award in the Digital Design category, for Apps and Software.

Why This Win Matters

The Good Design Awards stand as an emblem of pioneering design and innovation. With this award, we affirm our unwavering commitment to user-centric solutions that elevate Australia’s rail network.

A Deep Dive into Our Award-winning Design

SAPP and TIBs are not just groundbreaking for their technical capabilities; they shine in their user-centric approach. We honed the experience design of SAPP with our key user group—the ARTC Network Controllers and the Network Train Integration Team—in mind. These professionals operate in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. To support them, we implemented a dark mode in the user interface, designed to improve legibility and match ARTC's branding.

For TIBs, we engineered an intuitive, fast-performing web application to surface crucial information at the right times. The interface refreshes every 10 minutes automatically, serving as the ultimate hub for train tracking. A carefully thought-out colour scheme and symbol system allow users to easily discern various operational states and disruptions.

“The ARTC Movement Planner demonstrates a clever use of colour and excellent integration. Well done on its smooth adaptation to mobile devices.”
